After viewing several Web sites related to the Middle Ages, tell me some facet of the period that you would like to learn more about.

  1. I, personally, would like to learn more about the art, architecture, and literature of the Middle Ages. These topics cover over 1000 years of history which were recorded by the art and literature, and the architecture brings that history to us now. Many castles were built during this time, the art shows the diversity of many areas, and the literature is the only record we have of the time. Dante's "The Divine Comedy" is an example of literature from this time.

I find the Middles Ages very interesting in all. Yet, there are some very important and long events that happened in that age. Events such as The Battle of Hastings, the writing of The Magna Carta document, and The Doomsday Book. These are several happenings that I find intriguing. I would enjoy looking more into these historic documents and events. They hold a lot of substance and explanation to why things are the way they are today.

  6. During the Middle Ages, the food diet changed considerably. Changinging from Roman influences to lacking elegance and refinement, then home grown selections to European influences. There were alot of acidic foods annd drinks. The food they ate depended on the group of people ruling at the time.

  7. Personally, I would like to learn more about the medical care during the Middle Ages. There were many diseases and health problems going around during this time period. Also, many home remedies that are used today come from biologists and medics from the Middle Ages. Also, antibiotics weren't invinted until the 1800's, so i'm interested to learn how people were adequately treated.

I would love to learn more about the knights. They are very intresting to me. I want to find out how hard it really is to ride a horse with all the armor that they had to wear on. It also seems as if they had to be really skilled to do what they did an be successful.

  9. I would like to learn more about what the women did during the Middle Ages. I haven't heard much about the ladies except that they were mostly peasants. I would like to know about the Queen and what she did while the King was at battle. Last, I would like more information on the children while their parents are away.

  10. The middle ages are, as they are often called, quite “Dark.” Corrupt and disorganized political activity brews with gruesome physical suffering, such as famine and plague, to create a terrifying world for its inhabitants. Poor harvests and natural disasters wiped out the food supply, stopping economics, and starving the population. Immediately afterwards, the plague arrives, diminishing the population even further. Terrifying recounts of this disease were written everywhere while a third of Europe’s people are wiped out. Then, not a moment too soon, the Hundred Year’s War begins, taking most of the nobility, and the working men,

  13. In the Middle Ages the main purpose of the cathedral was religion. Cathedrals were expected to carry out many services a day. The medieval people believed that was how they could earn their place in heaven, among other things. Although religious services were the main purpose, a cathedral had other duties. Weddings and funerals took place here. Some were even buried inside there Cathedrals. The bells in the bell tower often signaled beginnings of services or served as a clock to tell time. The Cathedral also housed the monasteries. There were often many passages ways, a kitchen, chapel, work rooms, the garden, and were the monks lived. They were built by the bishops. The monks provided spiritual help to visitors and cleaned the church. The popes were the heads of the cathedral. The bishops were in charge of the services. Cathedrals were an important part of the Middle Ages.

  15. One facet I would like to learn about would be how the Catholic church played in with the Middle Ages. I know that the Catholic Church had a vital role in cultural influences such as learning and preserving the Latin language, retaining reading and writing, and having a central administration through their bishops. Also, the history behind how the protestants separated form the Catholic Church would be fun to learn about. Christianity has always been intriguing to me and I look forward to diving right into this subject.

  16. The clothing during the Middle Ages became more complicated. It was used to distinguish men and women of different professions from each other. Men mostly wore tunics down to their knee, though older men and monks wore their tunics down to the floor, and so did kings and noblemen for parties and ceremonies. Women also wore different tunics depending on who there wore. All women wore atleast one tunic down to their ankles. If they could afford it they would wear a linen over-tunic with a woolen under-tunic and often a wool cloak over that if they were going outside. Not much medieval clothing survives today. Most of what we know about the clothing comes from medieveal pictures and sculptures.

In the Middle Ages, the technology there is today did not exist. What did everyone do for fun? People had banquets, feasts, jousting tournaments, fairs, and mystery plays. Like today, people in the Middle Ages hunted, except they used bow and arrows and swords. The use of animals was another form of entertainment. During the holidays, people had many festivities to celebrate. Entertainment in the Middles Ages is not as bad as everyone thinks.

  19. The Middle Ages diet was poor in nutrients. Even the wealthiest nobles ate very few fresh fruits and vegetables. Usually only the poor indulged in dairy products.Their food was very spiced with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, garlic and cumin. Lack of nutients led to an uprising of bad teeth skin diseases, and scurvy. This was not a healthy period in time in nutrition.

  23. I would like to learn about the castles back then. How they were made and how long it took to build them. they were very big and it had to take a long time to build.

  24. A multitude of occurrences changed the course of history during the Middle Ages. This could have a great deal to do with what makes this time period one of the most studied periods in history. One could study the art, weaponry, literature, or warfare to have a great understanding of this era. However, it would be my preference to study the odd facts about the Middle Ages. Most people do not know that in that time animals could be tried for crimes just as easily as people, or that it required 140 hogs, 14 oxen, 12 calves, 12 boars, and three tons of salted venison to feed the 10,000 guests at one of Richard II's feasts.

  25. I am really intrigued about the knights in the middle ages. I find it very fascinating and i think that it has got to be very hard to be a knight. You have to wear all of the Armour and you have to ride the horse with all of the Armour on. And on top of that you have to fight and battle other people.

  26. I would like to learn more about music during the middle ages. I love music it is a big apart of my life. It would be very interesting to know how far we have come in the music industry. The different instruments, and types of melodies seem to pick at my taste buds. The dances interest me in a way as well. Just the way they let the music surge through there bodies in an almost mystical way. It's kind of beautiful actually.
